FAQs
Where do you get your rope from?
Jon and Bex both buy their rope from Anatomie Studio’s Shibari Store. We highly recommend all of their products for any shibari enthusiasts who wish for an exciting, visually stunning and sensual journey going forward. We use Jute as our personal preference for it’s strong, lightweight, natural looking aesthetic.
What other events do you teach at?
You can find us both on the crew for TKE Event’s Shibari-on-Sea which is on the third Tuesday of every month in Southend. Follow them on Fetlife to keep up to date with their events and to find out more information and we will hopefully see you there in the near future! We also help out on the first sunday of every month at London Alternative Market with the peer rope learning with OpalFruit.
Help! What do I wear to a rope jam at the shibari lounge?
Any thing you are comfortable in! Majority of people wear shorts and a t-shit, a body suit, gym/yoga attire, lingerie. We don’t have a dress code when it comes to these events but just bare in mind it is a small venue so complete nudity may make some feel uncomfortable and jeans, for example, or similar clothing isn’t easy to be tied in. Think of something that is easy to move in and the tighter fitting the clothing the better it is from a riggers perspective.
What should I expect from a Dungeon Social?
We host a very laid back and chilled event, we invite people to wear fetish/kink attire but understand that not everyone owns a wardrobe full of outfits as they can be expensive, therefore ask just wear what you are comfortable in to allow you to enjoy your evening the most.
We're an Open and AuADHD friendly space which welcomes all. Play is invited but not expected, it’s your evening to do what you like with. We have the main dungeon/Shibari room, a chill out/ after care zone and a rather fun entrance way.
We have a small capacity so it should hopefully never feel too overwhelming.
Do I NEED TO BRING MY OWN ROPE?
If you’re just starting out and don’t have anything yet, we do have some communal rope we can lend you. We have a variety of Jute, Hemp, Cotton and Nylon rope that you can get a feel for, explore and see what you enjoy the sensation of. We will always say “start as you mean to go on” when it comes to learning so you can really gauge your tensions and wraps when tying and how to handle the flow of the rope. However, it also completely depends on your intentions as the art of shibari and doing suspensions can have different requirements to dabbling in some bedroom bondage safely and comfortably.
